Reader of the Week: Le Concierge!

February 25th, 2005 by jsd · 1 Comment

Our Gratitude to Le Concierge, who this week has broken the barrier of casual sidelines observer, by posting comments and engaging in semantic discourse. As Minister of Protocol (We’re still working out the titles around here at HQ) I would like to use this occasion to say this: don’t be a stranger, dear reader, take a load off, have some tea, and make a comment! We have plenty of things lined up for next week, with some special contributions more things from the Parson desktop (courtesy of cbt3), and maybe mvb will buy a new LCD screen and treat us to more techpron. Also, you’ll notice that on the right hand side of mawopi there is a list of other blogs we enjoy visiting on a regular basis; you might find something interesting there for yourselves.

Enjoy your weekends, and maybe the medal will be yours next week!

2screens are still better than one, 2.

Oh yeah, this stuff is still great. The best part about it, is that I don’t NEED it. It’s not as if I’m a day trader, or even a full time graphic artist, or anyone that actually would rely on the “real estate” to be economically productive.

2screens.jpg

But here’s what I CAN do! I’ve got Battlestar Galactica, the new series on screen 1 (best sci-fi series.. maybe ever.. I’m still thinking about it). iTunes ready to pump tunes at any moment. Notepad for jotting down data. Calc for quick mathematical processes.

Screen 2 is running instant messenger, Mozilla Thunderbird (switch now to get Microsoft off your back), Mozilla Firefox with 5 tabs running (switch now to get Microsoft off your back), and IrfanView playing a slideshow of half naked supermodels. Man oh man. Tech is sweet.

the weight of the world

The word Douchebag is a truly wonderful, layered, sublime insult. But does it really cover all of our bases? Are there perhaps moments when a more refined version of Douchebag is appropriate? i sense your head nodding; yes, yes, I hear your despair, you feel perplexed by the warm fuzziness it feels to unleash a loud “douchebag”, but restriced by the usage of one insult for such a diverse crowd of, um, douchebags!

congratulations ma’am! it’s a douche-bag!

conceptual extensions:

douchekabob: man who releases multiple instances of douche-ness resulting in a skewered eff ect. also see; douche on-a-stick.

doubledouche: like a doube layer chocolate cake of douche-ness.

Guitar Lesson for the Week. Week 2

February 24th, 2005 by cbt3 · 1 Comment

Be careful with your strings. the E string is especially delicate, and vigorous strumming and picking can easily break it. It’s a good idea to have a bunch around in case of this. Breaking the G string is another matter altogether. Frankly I don’t know how you did it jsd.

It’s a good idea when you’re tuning your guitar to tighten the string till it just starts to feel tight, then loosen it a little, then tighten some more, then ease back, to let the string flex and settle into its new home.

If you find that you’re breaking more than 2 strings within the course of a week you’re doing something wrong. You need to take a moment and consider what external forces in your life may be causing you to act irrationally. Your behavior is borderline self destructive, and needs to be brought under control.

Remember, practice one hour a day.

Dear Ryan,

you are a very talented singer/songwriter. I have spent many hours listening to remarkable music you made with your albums Gold, Heartbreaker, Rock n’ Roll, Love is Hell part 1 & 2, and look forward to your new releases. There will be many who will doubt your dedication to the obvious sci-fi-alt-country convergence, but I just want you to know, Mawopi fully supports your decision to change your name to Mechrobioticon. I for one, welcome our new ballad driven coked up mech overlords.

yours faithfully,

jsd

one man’s something is another man’s other-thing

Those that know me know I love retards. I embrace retardation, and look forward to sightings as fervently as midget sightings. Cuddly, smiley faced retarded children of God. Well, it turns out that I am retarded. Yep, I didn’t know it. My friends would try to warn me: “Man, you’re retarded.” alas, I did not listen. “gifted” they’d say. what was I thinking. I’ve had badger badger on loop for an hour:

100th post

Dear all ten readers,

Mawopi.com has reached one hundred posts! yippee! cbt3, mvb, and jsd, The Editorial Team of Three, is fairly excited in a subdued sort of way.
We have big plans for Mawopi, but currently we are still going through an exploratory phase. Think of Mawopi as that awkward 14 year old boy with benzoyl peroxide, hairy growth spurts, and stolen cigarettes. We are still working out look & feel issues (see comments where cbt3 testily points out my image size is off) and philosophical issues about what it means to be a blog. We are encouraged by the fact that our friends and peers (that’s you!) are enjoying what we post and comment on a daily basis.
So keep us bookmarked, and I’ll buy you all a shot and a beer when i see you. It’s only 10 shots and 2 pitchers of beer after all.

see ya’ll in the pit,

jsd, Minister of Protocol

JP2: Man on Boy: OK. Man on Man: Evil.

Based on his lame-ass reaction to the pandemic of child molestation going on in his house, I assume the pontiff isn’t that offended by the practice. But in his new book, he clearly notes that gay marriage is “evil”. Sounds just like GW.
